Eating with ADHD isn't just about what's on your plate

ADHD affects hunger cues, impulse control, memory, and the executive function needed to plan, shop and prepare food. What looks like a 'lack of willpower' is often your nervous system doing exactly what ADHD brains do. Nutrition support for ADHD has to account for all of that — not just hand you a meal plan and hope for the best.

You might recognise some of these

Sensory sensitivities

Texture, smell or temperature aversions that limit what feels safe to eat.

Irregular eating patterns

Forgetting to eat, then overeating — the cycle that leaves you exhausted.

Food rigidity

A limited range of 'safe' foods that others don't understand.

Meal planning barriers

Executive function challenges that make planning and cooking feel impossible.

Hyperfocus and food

Skipping meals during hyperfocus, then crashing hard.

Medication affecting appetite

ADHD medication that suppresses hunger and disrupts eating rhythm.

Neurodiversity-affirming care — what that actually means

Lauren has specialist training in neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed dietetic care. That means sessions are built around your life, your preferences, and your capacity — not a textbook ideal. There's no judgement about safe foods, no pressure to overhaul everything at once, and no assuming what works for neurotypical clients will work for you. Just practical, genuinely flexible support.
